Life getting the way of creative stuff

So, I haven’t really done anything creative in weeks. Weeks! I was super excited about a couple of projects (a quilt for my nephew, octopus cross stitch, constellations quilt, etc.), but then life happened and I haven’t really had a chance to do much of anything. Heck, this week I didn’t even do my SAL update.

I won’t bore you with all the details of the past few months, but I’ve had a lot of things on my plate. Right now, it’s work that’s taking my time and energy. I’ve gone from juggling 3 responsibilities at work (2 jobs and mentoring someone) with about 2-3 hours of course work a week (work related training) to juggling 4 responsibilities (and being a supervisor) in a high paced environment while frantically trying to meet one course deadline, starting another course I need for a job I just applied for, and doubling my commute time because I was temporarily borrowed by another office. On the whole, I don’t really mind being super busy. I like my job and the people I work with, but I’m tired at the end of the day, so the course work is feeling harder and taking longer than usual.

I try to find time to do things, but, honestly, some things just have to be moved down the list of priorities. Right now, I mostly just want to finish my course work (the deadline is Monday) and finish dealing with migrating to my new computer (I mostly just have to finish fixing the tags on my pictures, which were screwed up in the migration – fortunately, I’m up to October of 2012, so I haven’t that much left to do).

It’s weird not doing creative things. I don’t mind too much and I’m used to having slow months (summer is always slow because of my volunteer work, which is starting this weekend!), but I have to admit it’s been a bit disappointing. I really want to work on all those projects. In fact, I really wanted to get a couple of them done by now so that I could get cracking on finishing one or two quilts for myself. Also, I missed out on a really cool opportunity: Carina, who does really beautiful embroidery patterns, very generously offered to include me in her list of bloggers when she participated in the Around the World Blog Hop. How cool is that?! I don’t craft for a living, so I was really surprised and so grateful that she considered including someone who’s “just” a hobbyist. I really wanted to participate, but I just couldn’t justify taking the time when I was struggling to get other things done. Plus, to be completely honest, I was a little embarrassed by how little I’ve been doing in the crafts world. Three months ago, I would have said “YES!”, but this was just the wrong time for me.

Anyway, things will settle down a bit in the coming weeks. If nothing else, finishing my course this weekend will free up a bunch of time. Then I just need to deal with the mess of where to store my craft stuff (did I mention I’ve been re-arranging things in my apartment?) and fixing the tags in the last 2 years of pictures (I think I can get this done in an afternoon). As mentioned, it’s volunteer season, but I should be able to at least get caught up with a few small projects.
