My ex-roommate is a teacher. She works in a school that has a really awesome teacher who has a huge collection of fish and other animals. He also has a bit of a jungle of plants.
One of the animals this teacher has is this wonderful tortoise. Being from Halifax and having spend lots of time at the Museum of Natural History when I was kid, I have a certain love and affection for tortoises, all of whom I call Gus (ha – in fact, I have been known to say, “look at the cute Gus” in lieu of “look at the cute tortoise”). This, for those of you not from Halifax, is because the museum had a pet tortoise named Gus who was 150-odd years old, very popular, and always on display for his fans.
Needless to say, when I say this sleeping “Gus” I oh-ed and ah-ed about how cute it was and had to take a picture.
On a side note, this was shortly after I bought my camera case (yes, it took me nearly 3 months to get around to buying one), so I was pretty excited to be visiting my ex-roommates school. I didn’t know about this classroom full of natural wonders, but I figured there would be something interesting to take pictures of. I was kept busy helping her do teachery things (like decorating the classroom for Valentine’s Day), but she made sure to show me this classroom before we left.
That’s the story behind the photo that I picked for week 2 of my 52 week challenge.
